My Little Fish... almost

Yesterday, Ainsley took her very first swimming lesson!  She was SO excited when she woke up in the morning, but that soon changed when she realized that she couldn't use her tube and/or floaties, haha.  I explained to her that the teacher wasn't going to let her sink to the bottom of the pool (which was her fear) and that she was going to be just fine.  I think she was still mostly excited, even with the nerves, because it only took her about 1 second before she jumped into that pool with the other kids (on the steps of course).

The lessons are being given at the same place as her gymnastics classes so I think the familiar surroundings helped a little.  That, and the fact that there were other children of course :).  The instructor wasn't all that impressive to me, unfortunately.  She just didn't seem very happy to be there.  And she didn't really seem to be doing much instructing... more like 'ok your turn, now put your head underwater'.  There was no showing them how to hold their breath before putting their faces in or explaining to them the basics of not breathing in.. only breath out through your nose.  Basically she told them once to blow bubbles in the water (for about 3 seconds) and after that she wanted them to swim with their heads underwater!  Is that the way its supposed to work???  I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I guess I planned to see the kids actually being taught the techniques, not just told to do the end result?!?!  Especially on the first day!  Does this make sense to anyone else??

Anyway, complaining aside, here are some pics of Ainsley.  She really did enjoy herself, even if I thought it was being done wrong, haha.

Now, at one point the teacher was trying to enforce the putting of the head underwater and Ainsley insisted that if she had goggles she could do it. So the teacher gave her some goggles...

LOL... she looked so funny!!!

And no, it didn't help her swim with her head underwater, haha...

She did take off by herself at this point though. They went into the deep end two at a time. Now this seems to be a strange technique considering it was the first day of swimming lessons and for all the teacher knew the first time any of these kids had ever even been in a pool. Managing one kid who can't swim is hard enough, but trying to manage two!!! Anyway, the other little girl was having difficulties... no surprise. So Ainsley says "I can do it by myself" and off she went!

...I sure hope these lessons get better.
